Montmartre Ronse 2026: art, craftsmanship and music take over the city centre this Sunday

Only a few days to go. On Sunday, 6 September, the historic centre of Ronse will take on a completely different atmosphere for four hours. More than 50 artists, craftspeople, students, musicians and other creatives will bring their work directly among the public.

After months of preparation, Montmartre Ronse 2026 is taking its final shape. From 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the city centre will become a route where visitors can not only discover art, but also watch it being created.

Painters, ceramic artists, illustrators, a cartoonist, jewellery makers, textile artists and many other creators will present their work and create live at different locations throughout the route.

More than 50 creatives

This year, Montmartre Ronse brings together a particularly diverse group of artists and craftspeople.

During Montmartre, many of them will not simply stand beside their work — they will also create live. Visitors can watch them work, ask questions and discover the techniques and stories behind each piece.

A nod to Ronse’s textile heritage

Ronse’s rich textile history will also have a special place during Montmartre.

In our Textile Corner, you can discover work by Wolness, Mieke De Grauwe, D'Ambachteljee and Mieke Van Damme.

From traditional handcraft and textile art to contemporary creations, part of Ronse’s history will be given a fresh expression during Montmartre.

Music and stories among the public

Music will also play an important role throughout the afternoon.

Meneer Tim will bring Flemish singer-songwriter music.

Igor De Wolf & Wim Rombaut will perform free improvisation on violin and handpan.

Steef Verwée, together with Johan Vanderaspoilden, Christine Termonia and Hans Kievits, will perform local Ronse songs and music from Ronse in ’t Ronssies.

And music will not be the only thing telling stories.

Morgane La Fay will share, among other things, traditional folk tales from Ronse, taking visitors into the stories, heritage and imagination of the city.

22 Art Academy students creating live

Young talent will also have an important place at Montmartre.

Under the guidance of Gert Crispyn and Sara Vantomme, no fewer than 22 students from the Flemish Ardennes Art Academy will take part.

They too will create live, giving visitors a close look at their techniques and creative process.

From traditional techniques to AI art

The route also continues inside the ArtNomadique Gallery at Wijnstraat 16.

In this way, Montmartre brings together very different forms of creativity in one afternoon: from traditional craftsmanship and long-established techniques to one of the newest forms of visual art.

Historical footage and CultuurLink

Montmartre is not only looking at the present.

Throughout the afternoon, a large LED screen will show historical footage from earlier Montmartre celebrations.

The different working groups of the municipal cultural advisory council CultuurLink will also be presented, including the groups behind the carillon, Poetry Day, Vlaanderen Feest, Ronssies Geklapt, Reveil and other initiatives.

Footage of the restoration of the carillon and the unveiling of the Buunie statue will also be shown.

Buunie gets a new outfit

Buunie is joining Montmartre too. 😄

For Montmartre Ronse 2026, the well-known statue will receive a new outfit thanks to Ronssies Geklapt.

A small and playful nod to Ronse and its distinctive character.

After Montmartre, the carillon takes over

Montmartre ends at 6:00 PM, but the cultural day in Ronse does not have to end there.

At 7:00 PM, the final summer carillon concert begins.

City carillonneur Dominique Wybraeke and his wife Els Van den Borre will perform a four-hands carillon concert, with their son Lucas providing a trumpet intermezzo.

The recital will be dedicated to Dominique’s late father.

Visitors who would like to listen in a quieter setting can use the listening area in Pêcheré Square, next to the crypt. The concert can also be enjoyed from the surrounding terraces.

A live projection from inside the carillon cabin will also be shown on the large LED screen to the right of the basilica.
